(PROJECT NAME) Display Rack Longer Than Shop Space
(PROJECT TYPE) Public Installation For Singapore Design Week 2024, “A Shopping Experience”
(STATUS) Build, 2024
(LOCATION) Bugis, Singapore
(COLLABORATORS) Curator-gideon-jamie
(PROJECT SUMMARY)
Tenancy agreement? In the hyper-sensory corridors of a shopping mall (Bugis Street, Singapore), it is essential for a vendor to pop-out. Be brighter, louder, maximize the shop’s boundaries to get the attention of the passing consumer.
I wonder what is the limit that a tenant can do to maximize a display fixture before the landlord becomes angry and kick you out? The installation of the longest display rack (8++ meters long) proposes to find the limits of this small shop’s boundaries and the tenancy agreement.

The installation – a temporary bridge – crosses over the fence and provides public & community access again to the Pondok Jawa site. The installation will stay for a full year till 2024.
In 2025, the fence was removed, giving access to the space again to the Kampong Gelam community.

(PROJECT SUMMARY)
An alternative Singapore Pavilion proposal for the Venice Biennale Architettura 2018. The project proposed to introduce to the world the nation’s (fictional) strategy of adapting to rising sea levels.
Due to the scarcity of reclamation materials, a new method is being explored called ”de-clamation”, consisting of moving and manipulating existing coastal land masses within the city state. The pavilion will showcase new landscape and spatial typologies during the biennale. The new East Coast coastal masterplan shall also be revealed.
